The Civil society forum of Tonga in partnership with Global Green Grant has assisted the Tonga National Visual Impairment Association in their efforts to raise awareness on the impacts of climate change and to contribute to planting more mangroves in support of the environment. This project kicked off last Friday with a climate change awareness workshop hosted by TNVIA for the People with Disabilities in partnership with Tonga National Youth Congress – TNYC.
The Department of Environment was invited to conduct a short demonstration on how to plant mangroves.
The project will continue with the clearing of the area where TNVIA together with the residents of the Alonga center will join forces to start planting the mangroves.
TNVIA will also be conducting radio and TV programs to continue to raise awareness on the impact of climate change and the importance of looking after the environment.
The project was funded by the Global Green Grant worth $6,000 pa’anga.
