Tonga mark 70th anniversary of People’s Republic of China

The government of China is hopeful – Tonga will continue to maintain political stability, economic prosperity and improvement of people’s livelihood.
This was part of China’s Interim Ambassador to Tonga’s remarks yesterday to mark China national day and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
In his remarks, H.E Yang Zhaohui hopes relationship between the two countries will continue to strengthen and develop.
“As a sincere development partner of Tonga, China hopes to see Tonga maintain political stability, economic prosperity and improvement of people’s livelihood. The election of a new Prime Minister is underway, and the cabinet may face reshuffle. China hopes and believes that Tonga will maintain political stability and achieve a smooth transfer of political power.”
Meanwhile, Tonga’s Acting Prime Minister – Hon. Semisi Sika praised the accomplishments Tonga has had since it started its diplomatic relationships with China 20 years ago.
“Since 1998, Tonga’s bilateral relationships with China have experience fruitful results with close contacts between governments and Parliaments as well. Smooth progress and mutual beneficial cooperation projects not only limit to economic and technical cooperation program but also in active people-to-people and cultural exchanges.”
Hon. Sika adds, Tonga will continue to maintain its diplomatic relationships with China.
Also attending yesterday’s program was HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita who participated in the cake-cutting ceremony to mark the important program.
The national day of China is celebrated on the 1st of October every year.
