“School is my Friend” helping school dropouts return

Students who dropped out of school due to personal reasons now have the opportunity to return to school with assistance from the Tonga National Youth Congress. A 2-day camping program known as “School is my Friend” is currently underway in Makeke with the aim to help students who drop out from school also those who are without a job. LP
Director of TNYC – Vanesa Lolohea says, the aim of the program is to support students who have no financial support from home due to circumstances such as they find themselves become a single mother/father, their parents or guardian have passed away or students were expelled from school due to alcohol consumption even school brawls – as an opportunity of finishing their secondary school level.
Radio and Television Tonga news this morning was in Makeke and had the opportunity to talk to some of the students where they expressed how happy they were to be a part of this program.
This included Sateki Saipa’ia 17 years old from Tupou College, Marina ‘Ahokovi 15 years old from Tailulu College and Vaiola Fifita 19 years old from ‘Apifo’ou College says they are grateful to be a part of the program as it will help them stay in school and earn a better future for themselves and their families.
The program will be an opportunity for the students to reflect on their studies before they take their final exam for 2019.
More than 40 students are participating in the program.
