Locals in ‘Eua are excited to see new developments on the island from the Hainan province of China.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in Nuku’alofa between the government of Hainan and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
‘Eua’s government representative – Sunia Havea says, they are delighted to work hand-in-hand with the government of Hainan with new development to the tourism and agricultural sector.
Havea adds, these are the two areas that needs the most improvement on the island and with the signing, attract more tourists into the island also export local produce overseas.
Havea also says, Hainan province will help fix their roads, also build drainages and sidewalks on the island.
A similar program has been carried out on the island of Ha’apai where they have seen benefits of road maintenance and other infrastructure developments.
The MOU signed is known as the Sisterhood or Sister City.
