RLIF suspend TNRL’s membership

The Rugby league international federation has suspended Tonga National Rugby league’s membership after government in a letter send to the federation stated, that TNRL had lost the support of domestic clubs and international players.
In the letter from the federation, Nigel Wood the CEO of Rugby league stated, that with the suspension of TNRL – they will work with Tonga Sports Council in the coming months to ensure that the best interests of domestic clubs and international rugby league can proceed.
This is while issues raised by parties are investigated and reported against.
In the letter send and signed by Hon. Semisi Sika the Acting PM to the federation – it stated the government’s stance on the issue – where they support the newly established board – Tonga Ma’a Tonga – that was registered by majority of the domestic clubs – as they support the players and their former coach Kristian Woolf.
With this move – players including Jason Taumalolo, Andrew Fifita and 25 other Tonga stars have declared their availability to wear the red jersey in the World Cup 9s and end-of-season Tests against Great Britain and Australia.
Meanwhile NRL.com reported, that with RLIF’s decision, the NRL will withdraw Tonga’s invitation for a team governed by the TNRL to play in the world 9s.
