King Tupou VI calls for climate action to protect maritime boundaries at the UN General Assembly

His Majesty the King addressed the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday morning focusing on climate change related issues.
King Tupou VI spoke on the success of the UN Climate Summit held prior to the general Assembly, and the Tonga governments plans for action on the Sustainable Development Goals.
His Majesty also highlighted the need to ensure baselines for maritime boundaries were not changed, saying climate change should not compromise our sovereignty.
The theme of the general debate of the 74th session of the general assembly is – “Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion.”
