IFAD visits Tonga

The International Fund for Agricultural Development – IFAD has donated US$4.7 million to assist and fund the community development plans in the Pacific including Tonga. IFAD is working in collaboration with MORDI Tonga aiming to improve resilient livelihoods in Tonga. The Associate Vice President of IFAD – Donal Brown and Director for Asia and Pacific Division – Nigel Brett are currently in Tonga to review their support to the new Government.
Their community development projects have been ongoing for a number of years now with Tonga being the most successful in these development projects in the Pacific.
The 3 objectives of Brown and Brett’s visit to Tonga include engaging with the PM designate and the incoming government, review work under these projects with MORDI Tonga, and to discuss the next phase of the projects.
On Monday, Brown and MORDI Tonga CEO – Soane Patolo visited ‘Eua to visit houses built under reconstruction project for homes damaged in Tropical Cyclone Gita last year and other projects on the island.
There are 122 communities altogether here in Tonga that IFAD funds their projects.
