PM retracts planned appointment of 2 advisors
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 02/10/2019
Information from the Ministry of Finance from the PM designate has confirmed that Dr. Tu’i Uata and ‘Etuate Lavulavu will no longer be appointed as advisors to the Pohiva Tui’onetoa in his post as Prime Minister. This is explanation is a correction of a statement the PM designate made himself on national radio & television that he planned on appointing Uata and Lavulavu as close advisors for his role.
In the statement from Finance it said the PM designate had made a mistake in announcing this move.
However this statement was released after a consultant of the nobles representatives to Parliament said that the PM designate and his proposed cabinet were at odds with the Noble MPs who had voted him in as PM in the first place, on the appointment of these two advisors.
Clive Edwards said the Nobles MPs had been trying to meet with Tui’onetoa to discuss this issue, but he has not yet made time for this.
