More than 300 people arrested for drug related crimes since April

The Police Drug Task Force has arrested more than 300 people for drug related crimes since April last year. Police Spokesperson says, the people arrested include two police officers, men, women and young adults with the youngest age recorded a 13-year-old. Most of the arrests were made in the Nuku’alofa area.
Just last weekend Police seized illicit drugs from a residence at Sopu and arrested three men and a woman.
Police seized 10 packs of methamphetamine (6.36 grams), 6.27 grams of cannabis, one pistol air gun and two liters of home brew and more than three thousand pa’anga cash.
The four accused are two men from Sopu, a 21year-old man from Nualei and a 24-year-old woman from Kolofo’ou.
They have been charged for unlawful possession of illicit drugs, firearm and intoxicating liquor and are still under police custody.
Deputy Police Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai says Police will continue to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs and prevent further harm to the community.
