The Public Service Commsion is yet to reveal the reason behind their move to terminate the four-year contract of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs – Mahe’uli’uli Tupouniua.
Tupouniua signed his 4 year contract with the government in June last year, and in May this year privy council made a decision to move Tupouniua from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Palace office and suggested the Lord Privy seal to the post.
However The Justice Minister at the time who’s the deputy prime Minister now said the decision was unconstitutional as Privy council doesn’t have any right to interfere with the government’s operation.
The Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet is now the acting secretary of Foreign Affairs.
Contacts have been made to Mahe Tupouniua – for a comment on the issue – but to no avail.
