Outbreak of measles leads to cancellation of large gatherings

The outbreak of measles in Tonga has led some churches to cancel their large gatherings scheduled for the end of the year.
Just last weekend the Secretary General of the FWC Rev. Dr Tevita Havea announced major changes to the church’s programs and also announced the cancellation of some events as a preventative measure due to the outbreak.
One of the major changes was the annual combined graduation of all FWC secondary schools.
He adds it was advised from the Ministry of Health to avoid large gatherings during the outbreak as measles could spread.
Meanwhile all Government primary schools will resume tomorrow and Thursday for the final day of the year.
Health Officials are continuing to provide free vaccines for the people in the rural areas.
