394 cases of measles in Tonga

The Ministry of Health confirmed the cases of measles in Tonga have reached 394 as of Tuesday this week.
The latest situation report shows most of the cases are recorded in Tongatapu with 344 and Vava’u with 44 cases.
Five cases of rash illness have occurred in children on the island of ‘Eua and a single rash illness case in Ha’apai has been recorded as well.
Most of the cases recorded are between the ages of 10-19 and majority are young men.
Eight admissions to hospital have occurred among measles cases in this outbreak, with no deaths.
Health officials continue to work with related stakeholders to try to postpone mass gatherings as possible.
Due to the outbreak 6,000 additional MR vaccine doses from UNICEF is expected to arrive tomorrow.
Meanwhile from our neighboring country Samoa, the death toll has risen from six to 42. Most of the dead are children under the age of four.
