Despite the cancellation of the celebrations scheduled to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Catholic Youth in Tonga, many youths were at the Houma Parish this morning for a mass.
The mass was led by the Catholic Youth Chaplain Fr. Loni Mafi together with Fr. Paulo ‘Amato together with other priests.
Speaking to Radio Tonga News, Fr Loni says, today is a celebration of the achievements accomplished since 1969, especially with programs hosted to help young men and young women of the Church.
The Catholic Youth Association was established to promote and to encourage young Catholic Leaders in Tonga and prepare them for the future.
It was also set up to assist youths mentally, spiritually and physically.
Fr Loni adds, the youths of today are facing many social challenges and they are working closely with related stakeholders to seek ways to protect the life of young leaders from the impacts of alcohol and drugs and misusing of social media.
Part of today’s program was unveiling a plaque by the estate holder of Houma Lord Vaea.
Thousands of Catholic youth are currently in Tonga for the celebration however it was announced cancelled last week due to the measles outbreak.
