A technical team of experts from the Chinese company AVIC XAC are in Tonga to fulfil the requirements needed to restore the airworthiness of the Chinese gifted aircraft MA60.
Since early 2018 the aircraft was no longer operating under REAL Tonga citing incomplete maintenance work and its Certificate of Airworthiness (COA) has expired in June this year.
Minister of Infrastructure Hon. ‘Akosita Lavulavu was in China last month together with a team from Tonga to seek technical, operational and commercial assistance and support from the aircraft’s manufacturer.
While in China the Hon. Minister signed a MOU with the manufacturing company of MA60, AVIC XAC and agreed to work together on the issue, following a Cabinet decision.
Government plans to resume the operation of the aircraft in six months.
MA60 was a gift from the Chinese Government in 2013.
