46-year-old man dies in road accident over the weekend

Fourth road fatality for the year recorded at Fasi-moe-afi-‘a-Tungi on Saturday night
The fourth road fatality for the year was recorded over the weekend at Fasi-moe-afi-‘a-Tungi. The Acting superintendent of the Nuku’alofa Police Station – Tevita Vailea says the tragedy happened in front of the Kimiko Restaurant around eight in the evening, when a van hit the victim’s vehicle.
The deceased was a 46-year-old man, a resident in the Kolofo’ou area.
Police rushed to the scene to save the victim’s life; however, he didn’t make it when they reached Vaiola.
Police were also able to locate the driver of the van, around the Nuku’alofa area few minutes after the incident.
The driver of the vehicle accused of causing the tragedy is currently under custody.
He is a 31-year-old man from Pahu and Vailea adds, he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Acting Superintendent is urging the public for more information regarding the incident as they continue investigating the accident.
