Emergency stakeholders prepare for TC Sarai

Related stakeholders have activated their emergency plans for emergency preparedness from Category 2 Tropical Cyclone SARAI which is expected to hit the islands of Vava’u and Ha’apai tomorrow. This was confirmed after a second meeting of the National Emergency Management Committee.

CEO of the Ministry of MEIDECC – Paula Ma’u says, they have issued cyclone warnings to Vava’u and Ha’apai to prepare ahead of tomorrow.

Paula adds, although the cyclone is predicted to downgrade to a category 1 tomorrow, however it is important to be cautious and more prepared.

He also says, they’ve learned from damages made by cyclone GITA last year, they need to be more ready and operate better during an event of a cyclone.

Various clusters including the WASH cluster, agriculture have begun their operations and the NEMC will continue to follow-up on the latest track of the cyclone.

4 major groups will assist the country during and after the cyclone including HMAF, Police, Fire & Emergency Services, also Tonga Red Cross Society.
