Two fires recorded in the first week of 2020

The Fire & Emergency Services have recorded 2 fire cases at the beginning of the New Year.
Deputy Fire Commissioner – Sinamoni Kauvaka says, one was a house fire recorded in Vava’u at the village of Kameli, and the other was a fire at one of the gas stations in the Nuku’alofa area.
Kauvaka adds, the cost of the damage to the house fire in Vava’u is worth aTOP$50,000 the cost of damage at the gas station was about TOP$5,000.
Meanwhile, town officer of Neiafu – Vāvā Lapota says, the house in Kameli, Vava’u burned to the ground last night.
He adds, police are yet to identify the cause of the fire however, they believe it started from a mosquito coil.
Lapota says the family of the house was in the village of Pangaimotu at the time of the fire and no one was home when the fire started. The family returned home to find the house engulfed in flames.
No injuries have been reported, and investigation into the matter continues.
