PM announces new national festivals for 2020 to boost tourism

The Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa has announced new national festivals for the New Year – 2020 aiming to boost the tourism sector.
The PM says the programs include, cleaning campaign for all the villages in Tonga which will be held on October 4th.
The program aims at beautifying the villages and promoting team work, and prizes will be awarded for this competition.
The festivals include the presentation of awards and celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a more democratic government in Tonga to be held on the 4th of November 2020.
The program will be called “We are Tongan” and PM says Tongans from abroad will be invited to participate.
On December 4th another program is being arranged to celebrate George Tupou I, the founder of modern Tongan. The Prime Minister is hoping the program will be a good opportunity for the public to learn more about Tongan history and the constitution forged by King George Tupou I.
Tonga’s national festivals usually take place mid-year such as the Miss Heilala pageant, but Tu’i’onetoa says government wants to have more festivals to boost tourism at the end of the year.
Another tourism project government is looking forward to this year is the Dubai World Expo to begin in October.
