Decrease in number of fire cases recorded last year compared to 2018

The Fire & Emergency Services recorded a huge drop in the number of damages caused by fire that they recorded in the year 2019, compared to 2018.
The Deputy Fire Commissioner – Sinamoni Kauvaka says, a total of 358 fire incidents were recorded in 2018, but this decreased by 17 per cent in 2019.
Incidentally this also saw a drop in the cost of damages caused by fire in 2019 with a drop of about 43 percent from the 2 million pa’anga cost of damages recorded in 2018.
Kauvaka says there was also a decrease in fire fatalities with 5 deaths and 6 injuries recorded in 2018 while only 1 death and 4 injuries were recorded in 2019.
Kauvaka also advised the public to use electric appliances carefully as misuse can lead to these appliances malfunctioning and causing fires.
