Mondul brand exercise books removed from stores
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 09/01/2020
The Consumer Protection division of the Ministry of Trade & Economic Development is still trying to collect exercise books of the brand MONDUL from all the stores in Tonga, before school resumes for the academic year 2020. This particular brand was imported from an Asia and is illegal to be sold in the Kingdom as it does not meet the requirement according to the consumer act.
Sandra Dee Fifita from the ministry says, they are concerned because these Mondul school books are being sold at various retail store throughout Tongatapu, including the outer islands.
Because school is expected to resume soon, the Consumer Protection Division is therefore warning parents to ensure they do not buy any of these school materials from the stores.
Fifita adds, they are prohibiting stores from selling “MONDUL” exercise books because it breaches section 22 of the Consumer Protection Act and section 5 of the Protection against Unfair Competition Act – producing something to mislead the consumer.
Because MONDUL has been sold by many stores throughout Tonga, the Ministry put up an official announcement in December last year, requesting stores to immediately cease the sales of all “Mondul” school books.
This particular brand of school book has the same appearance as the WARWICK school books but according to Fifita, WARWICK has better quality for use.
