Survey being held to determine cleanliness of schools
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 15/01/2020
The Public Health Unit is currently surveying the schools in Tonga to ensure all school premises are clean before schools resume for the new academic year.
A spokesperson from the Ministry says the survey will also include identifying schools that need to insecticide to destroy the mosquito breeding areas.
Tonga has been experiencing few rainfalls since the school holiday last year, and the Health authorities are concerned as the country is vulnerable to mosquito borne virus such as zika, chikungunya, and dengue fever.
The main focus now of the Public Health Unit is immunizing the most vulnerable age group against measles in the communities and also to destroy mosquito breeding areas.
However a separate team has been tasked to identify schools that needs insecticide.
