The government is close to completing the first phase of the tourism and hospitality qualification in Tonga with the cookery qualifications – Certificate in Level 3 & 4 being finalized this week. This morning, the Ministry of Tourism along with TNQAB and related stakeholders held a one-day discussion regarding the two new qualifications.
The Principal Qualification Officer from TNQAB – Vilimaka Foliaki says, so far only 5 national qualifications have been registered in Tonga and they are now looking at the two new qualifications to be validated before it could be officially registered.
It is expected that these new national qualifications will help create new pathways and careers for school leavers and existing industry workers. Once approved, it will be used by the second semester of this year.
The program is funded by the Australian Government through Tonga Skills in partnership with Auckland Institute of Studies in New Zealand.
