Areas in Ha’apai without power following cyclone damage

More than 1000 homes and businesses in the Ha’apai Island Group are still without power today after Tropical Cyclone Tino damaged power poles and electricity wires over the weekend.
Tonga Power Limited CEO – Setitaia Chen says, in terms of power, Ha’apai was the most affected in this cyclone and they had to switch off their power supply for the whole island group for the safety of the public. Minimal damage was also recorded in Vava’u.
During the cyclone TPL also worked in close partnership with the National Emergency Management Office – NEMO
A team of linesmen was be sent to Ha’apai and Vava’u today with the power supply in these island groups expected to be restored back to normal by tomorrow.
