MEIDECC Minister leads assessment team to Niuatoputapu

The MEIDECC Minister – Hon. Poasi Tei this morning visited Niuatoputapu along with a team from the ministry to assess the damage on the island following TC Tino.
The Ministers delegation included the CEO – Paula Ma’u, the Director of the National Emergency Management Office – Mafua Maka and other officials who will be carrying out the assessment identifying the critical needs of the people.
Information from NEMO says the island of Ha’apai was the worst affected in the cyclone and is now the main focus of their recovery operations.
The latest situation report on the recovery efforts says the urgent needs of the people in Ha’apai are the fixing of the Holopeka Road, reconstruction of the foreshore in front of the Governor’s office, Tailulu College, and Nomuka.
It also states that food security can possibly be threatened after 2-3 weeks from now.
From the island of Vava’u, only one house sustained damage while most of the damage recorded was to the coastal areas and fruit trees.
