The Friendly Islands Shipping Agency – FISA have said they are addressing the issues raised from yesterday from Ha’apai regarding their services to the island.
FISA admits there had been shortcomings in their operations to the outer islands especially to the island of Nomuka in Ha’apai, however they scheduled the MV ‘Otuanga’ofa to travel to Vava’u yesterday and return via Nomuka this morning to bring the passengers from the island.
A local from Nomuka contacted Radio Tonga News yesterday afternoon expressing dissatisfaction over FISA’s services specifically with not providing enough space on the ferry for their passengers especially their children as they were scheduled to return to Nuku’alofa earlier this week, however this didn’t happen despite paying their tickets on time.
The information from FISA explained that this was due to the limited capacity on the vessel, as they were unable to allow all the Nomuka passengers aboard because this would then pose a safety risk so the Captain decided to limit the number of passengers from Nomuka.
There was also complaints of the FISA workers dissatisfactory customer services however the shipping agency apologized for this incident and said they would work on improving their services in this area as well.
The Lulunga District officer, requested the MV ‘Otuanga’ofa schedule be changed in order to arrive at their islands in the daytime instead of their current schedule that sees the vessel arrive at night to the Lulunga District. FISA says they will do their best to meet the requests of these customers but they make these decisions considering all their customers in all the islands.
