The ministry of Internal Affairs together with the ministry of Health this morning met with parents of children who are part of sports teams currently in China to reassure the parents and guardians of these children that the sports teams are in good health and still safe from exposure to the virus.
The head of Public Health – Dr. Reynold ‘Ofanoa explained to the parents and guardians gathered at the ministry, all the measures the ministry were taking in collaboration with the Sports Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to ensure the safe return of these athletes from China.
Deputy Director of MIA – ‘Onetoto ‘Anisi says two of the 4 teams left in China were expected to arrive back in the Kingdom yesterday but they were unable to fly out of Beijing on their initial route – through Hong Kong – New Zealand, then Tonga, due to the airports in Hong Kong being shut down and so the ministry is working on booking another flight route for the teams out of China.
Some of the parents and guardians present at this meeting thanked the two ministries for reassuring them at this time but they asked that their children be returned as soon as possible.
