Officials are yet to finalize a decision on the permits for four cruise liners scheduled to arrive in Nuku’alofa and Neiafu this week, after locals in Vava’u raised concerns regarding border security in the coronavirus outbreak.
A reliable source from the Ministry of Tourism says they’ve received reports of concern from locals in Vava’u opposing the arrival of the super yacht Wind Spirit as they want extra precautions taken at their ports due to the coronavirus outbreak in China.
Talks are underway between authorities to decide whether the cruise liners would be granted permits to berth in our ports which is expected to be determined later today and announced tomorrow.
The super yacht that is on its way to Neiafu was diverted there after damage to the wharf in Niue from the recent TC Tino prevented them from making a stop at the island, although it was already scheduled to arrive in Nuku’alofa on the 22nd of this month.
