Tonga diverts four cruise ships from reaching our shores

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 12/02/2020

All four cruise ships scheduled for Nuku’alofa and Vava’u this week have been diverted to neighboring islands as a preventative measure from the coronavirus outbreak.

A senior officer from the Ministry of Tourism – ‘Anaseini Manuopangai says, they were notified last night by the Ministry of Health to cancel all cruise ships that were scheduled for this week.

Three cruise ships were expected to berth at the Nuku’alofa Harbor this morning and one super yacht to visit the island of Vava’u this Saturday.

The issue was first raised from Vava’u as they were opposing any cruise liners reaching their shores over coronavirus concerns.

Thousands of tourists were expected to visit the island today.
