Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 13/02/2020
The Prime Minister is concerned with members of the public misusing the social media platform FACEBOOK creating a negative impact on people’s lives. PM highlighted the issue during this afternoon’s Christian workers fellowship for the year – 2020.
In his remarks, Hon. Dr. Pohiva Tu’ionetoa, says he is concerned because technology is an essential tool HOWEVER when its misused for cybercrimes such as cyber bullying it will have negative impacts of people’s lives and in the society.
Hon. Tu’ionetoa says, FACEBOOK has been used by many to downgrade others with abusive content.
He also says, it is more difficult and hard to accept when the person who is spreading hateful comments is a relative or close friend – which is becoming common nowadays.
However, the Prime Minister says the issue can be addressed if the person being victimized ignores it.
He adds, if people will turn to Christ and have faith in Him, then they can be able to withstand trials and difficulties they faced.
The Prime Minister then conveyed his great wishes to the public servants for the working year 2020.
