First group of Tongan athletes from China arrive in UK

The first group of Tongan athletes being flown out of China have arrived in London, UK after the British government approved the Tongan governments request to have the Tongan athletes stranded in China allowed to enter the UK and spend the 14 day quarantine period there before they return to Tonga.
The Acting Minister for Health – Poasi Tei said on Saturday the government was working on flying out the sports teams from China on Sunday, after the British government gave the green light for the teams to enter the country. The minister said the teams are traveling in two groups with the first departing China yesterday and confirmed to have arrived in London early this morning. The second team is expected to depart China tomorrow and arrive in the UK early on Wednesday morning.
The 51 Tongan athletes will be in London for two weeks, where they will be taken care of by a Tongan doctor in the UK – Dr. Faka’osi Pifeleti.
The teams are expected to return to Tonga once the quarantine period is completed and the athletes cleared for travel, and are expected to arrive in Tonga on the first week of March.
Meanwhile – officials from the Ministry of Internal Affair and Foreign Affairs have traveled to the UK to assist in the preparation of the athletes return home.
