Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 27/02/2020
Students and teachers of the Vaini GPS today excitedly entered their newly constructed classrooms rebuilt from tropical cyclone Gita, after a special program to bless the classrooms this afternoon.
The construction of these classrooms was carried out under the Pacific Resilience Program – PREP with their communications officer – Dr. Langitoto Helu saying the project was funded by World Bank and was worth 1.7 million pa’anga
The Vaini GPS will be using the new classrooms from today onwards after having to study for quite a while under tents.
Dr. Langitoto explains the new classrooms were built to withstand strong cyclones so they are hopeful it will last a long time to serve the students of the Vaini GPS
Two weeks ago, the Prime Minister marked the first classrooms to be rebuilt after the damage from TC Gita at Navutoka.
There are 30 schools altogether in Tongatapu and ‘Eua that will have classrooms or classroom blocks rebuilt under the PREP project. The total cost for the reconstruction projects to classrooms damaged from cyclone Gita is $20 million pa’anga.
