Sugar supplies arrived Tonga from market

Raw sugar has finally arrived from the international markets of Thailand and Fiji to Tonga after almost a month of shortage in the supplies.
Speaking to Radio & TV Tonga News, Mr. ‘Aisake Fifita from the Consumer Affairs Division says higher prices have been imposed on the product.
He says the wholesale price of the 50kg sack of sugar from Thailand cost TOP$85.30 and the retail price is TOP$1.90/kg in the Nuku’alofa area with TOP$1.95/kg in the rural area.
‘Aisake Fifita adds it will be more expensive in the outer island.
However sugar from Fiji cost TOP$128.55 per 50 kg wholesale and the retail price in Nuku’alofa is TOP$2.85/kg, while in the rural areas will impose TOP$2.90/kg.
Meantime it will be more expensive at the outer island.
Raw sugar from Thailand was imported by a Chinese businessman while raw sugar from Fiji was imported by a Tongan national.
