Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 6/03/2020
The Food Authority are concerned with the quality of food bought from various restaurants in town after they received a complaint from the public regarding one of the restaurants in the Nuku’alofa area.
The CEO of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry – Dr. Viliami Manu says they are currently monitoring the issue and inspecting all restaurants in Tonga to ensure food sold to the public are in still in good condition.
The CEO says, they have received several complaints in the past but they also understand that it is the summer season and therefore, they are expecting problems with the handling and preparation of food due to the weather condition.
He adds, the Food Authority Division of the Ministry carries out inspections to restaurants and businesses in Tongatapu once in every quarter.
This includes inspecting the place where they prepare the food to ensure it is hygienic. However, they do not inspect the quality of food being cooked and sold to the public.
The Ministry urges more cooperation with the public and encourages them to file complaints directly to them and not on social media to reduce misleading of information.
