Ministry of Revenue holds consultation with the public on tax

The Ministry of Revenue and Customs this morning hosted a one-day discussion with town and district officers regarding the Ministry’s proposed amendments to tax legislations.
More than 20 districts and town officers this morning participated in the program which includes collecting information from the taxpayers on what they need to improve in the current tax legislations.
Senior Assistant Deputy CEO of the ministry – Taniela Sila says, the purpose of the program is to explain to the participants the current act and amendments made.
Sila says alot of taxpayers were not satisfied with some of the penalties due to failure to comply with the tax legislations however, decisions have been put in place regarding the penalties.
Meanwhile, Houma’s District Officer – Sione Kata said, this program is very helpful as it helps them learn more about the significance of collecting their taxes as this will benefit everyone in the country.
The ministry will continue its consultations and will await the opening of parliament for their proposed amendments to be submitted.
