Speaking to Radio Tonga News, a senior officer from the Ministry of Fisheries – Poasi Ngaluafe says, His Majesty was able to view first hand the new techniques of fishing the banded shrimp.
Poasi says the new technique was adapted from the Solomon Islands.
The fishermen in Koloa were taught with these new techniques and have yet to see if the new catching process is a success.
However during His Majesty’s visit yesterday, the villagers were able to catch more than 20 banded shrimps and presented their catch to His Majesty.
Poasi says the uniqueness of the banded shrimps for the people of Vavau is that, they do not sell it both to local and overseas market; however they present this special banded shrimp as gifts to members of the Royal Family.
