Tropical Cyclone Harold to affect Tonga
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 8/04/2020
This morning there were no major changes to the previous predictions of the Tonga Met Services regarding Tropical Cyclone Harold according to the Director – ‘Ofa Fa’anunu’s report, shortly after 10am this morning.
In the meantime, the Chair of the ‘Api Tonga committee in Suva – Kisione Finau in USP told Radio & Television Tonga News this morning power has been cut to the area due to the cyclone. Finau also reported they were in touch with the majority of the Tongan community who were the Tongan students studying in Suva to make sure they were safe in the cyclone.
So far there were no reports of any of the Tongan community being affected and in need of urgent assistance and Finau was encouraging them and advising them to follow the directives of the authorities in this time especially with the restriction from COVID-19 also in place.
Finau thanked their families and friends and all the people of Tonga for praying for them during this time.
There is a very large Tongan community in Fiji with many Tongans in the country for study or work.
