Suspended Hotel staff request assistance from National Retirement Fund

The Tanoa International Dateline Hotel has suspended 60 of its staff due to the impacts to their service from the closing of the borders due to COVID-19. Tanoa is one of the businesses under the Tourism sector, which is greatly impacted due to the travel restrictions from COVID-19 across the world.

The Human Resources Manager of the hotel – Tupou ‘Ahome’e Faupula says, they are concerned for how their staff would be able to sustain themselves in the following months or even a year, while being jobless with hopes the National Retirement Fund could assist them at this time.

Meanwhile, Kalatiola Fotukava from Havelu who is among those that were suspended says she is also concerned for not only her and her family but also her fellow employees.

Fotukava also hopes the National Retirement Fund would be able to assist them as they are uncertain for their future.

However, Finance Minister – Hon. Tevita Lavemaau says, the government is still working closely with the Board of the National Retirement Fund regarding the issue.
