Private vehicles damaged in Ports Authority storage during cyclone

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 14/04/2020
About 20 vehicles were damaged at the Ports Authority due to the high tides when TC Harold made landfall on Thursday morning.
Acting CEO of Tonga Ports Authority ‘Alo Maileseni says, these are private properties as they were shipped from overseas awaiting to be picked up by owners.
It is not clear now who will pay for the compensation at this stage as the items are insured by private companies.
TC Harold Cat 4 brought very high tides that moved empty shipping containers from the storage area to the middle of the Vuna Road at Ma’ufanga and vehicles were full of sea water.
Staff of Tonga Ports Authority are still completing their survey on the impacts.
