The Prime Minister is calling on the public to be more cautious with distributing false information especially on social media.
Hon. Dr Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa says he was disappointed to watch a program on Facebook that reported the DPM will be returning to Tonga aboard a flight from NZ that was carrying equipment for the Ministry of Health. Prime Minister Tui’onetoa said this was absolutely false and that there was never an arrangement for the incoming flights to carry passenger into Tonga as long as the borders are closed.
He said the information circulating on social media was dangerous as it was misleading the public and causing others to worry.
The Prime Minister explained that the flight from New Zealand which arrived around midday, brought much-needed resources for the Health Ministry, and then returned with New Zealanders who had been stranded here since the borders closed March 23rd.
The flight brought PPE supplies worth 1 million pa’anga funded by the Government for the staff of the Ministry of Health.
