Estimated 40 million pa’anga total damages from TC Harold on ‘Eua

The estimated cost for the damage on the island of ‘Eua from tropical cyclone Harold is more than 40 million pa’anga.
The Finance Minister who’s also ‘Eua’s representative to Parliament Tevita Lavemaau says, the amount mentioned is just as estimate, observing the major damage on the island’s main infrastructure such as the Wharf and the main road from ‘Ohonua to Tufu.
More than 10 houses were completely destroyed, some of the resorts recorded major damages, also the tourism and agricultural sector.
Lavemaau adds, discussions are currently underway regarding financial assistance for those affected from TC Harold.
HMAF’s delivered essential needs to the island yesterday and on its return, brought back with them students and workers from the island.
Discussions are still underway on temporary renovation to the wharf with hopes it will be completed by next week.
Meanwhile, Tonga continues to benefit from foreign donors such as ADB while actively working in the fight against COVID-19 and also coping with the impacts from TC Harold.
