Lord Tu’ivakano received suspended sentence, fined TOP$4,000

Former Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament – Lord Tu’ivakano was this morning sentenced by the Lord Chief Justice Whitten to two years imprisonment and to pay TOP$4,000 within three months.
Lord Tu’ivakanoo was sentenced two years imprisonment for making a false statement for the purpose of obtaining a passport and another two years for perjury to be served concurrently.
Lord Tu’ivakano’s sentence is fully suspended with conditions after Lord Chief Justice Whitten says the defendant has been free of criminal activity all his life and truly capable of responding to the deterrent and rehabilitating himself.
The conditions include, that he will not commit any offence punishable by imprisonment, placed on probation, report to the probation office within 48 hours, perform 100 hours’ community service as directed by his probation officer.
Lord Tu’ivakanoo is fined with 4thousand pa’anga for possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlicensed ammunition.
The fines are to be paid within three months else the defendant is to serve two months’ imprisonment.
