Essential workers breach curfew hours and drinking alcohol

The arrests during last weekend recorded the highest number of people arrested during the lockdown period.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner ‘Atunaisa says more than 100 people were arrested during their operation since Friday night to Monday morning and most were for breaching the curfew hours starting from 9 in the evening until 5 in the morning.

He says, some claimed they were essential workers with their IDs provided but Police later discovered they were using their IDs as essential workers during COVID-19 to breach the curfew hours while they were under the influence of alcohol.

Most of the arrests were in the Nuku’alofa area. Taumoepeau is urging the public to comply with the restrictions imposed during this period.
