Tonga to receive USD $4.5 million insurance following TC Harold

Tonga can access USD$4.5m or equivalent to 10.5 million pa’anga, under its disaster insurance cover from the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company to help in the response and recovery efforts following devastation from TC Harold.
Finance Minister Hon. Tevita Lavemaau states in a Press Release, Tonga can now access funds to boost the disaster response efforts following the cyclone as the funds enable the government to respond quicker to assist the people worst affected by the cyclone.
The estimated cost of damage from TC Harold in Tonga is at #$260 mpa’anga.
Since the first week of last month to date some families are still living under tents and the Minister of Infrastructure Hon. ‘Akosita Lavulavu says they will try to help victims of Harold especially families who have lost their homes.
She adds, they’ve received requests from the damaged resorts for the government’s assistance to help with cleaning up their properties.
