Government increases monthly payment for elderlies and people living with disabilities

The Government has increased the monthly payments for the elderlies also those living with disabilities. The Finance Minister Hon. Tevita Lavemaau informed MPs during yesterday’s Parliament deliberations on the national budget 2020/2021.
Hon. Tevita Lavemaau says, the initiative is to assist the most vulnerable groups due to impacts of Covid 19.
“The elderlies between the age group of 85+, will receive $90 pa’anga per month, which is a $10 pa’anga increase from their current payment of $80 pa’anga and for those in the age group 90 and above, they will receive $100 pa’anga. This is now included in the current National budget.”
Finance Minister, adds, they will review the budget 2021/2022 to include the payment for those between the ages of 74-84.
The estimated amount for the initiative is at $5.2million pa’anga, with additional $1.2 million pa’anga.
It also includes those who have been confirmed by health officials to experience any form of disability.
