Health Ministry receives hand sanitizers from Heilala Vanilla

NZ’s High Commissioner to Tonga this afternoon donated of 70 hand sanitizers made from vanilla to the Health Minister in preparation for COVID-19.
In her remarks, NZ’s High Commissioner to Tonga – HE Tiffany Babington says, they’ve noted the shortages in PPE’s and hand sanitizers worldwide, hence the assistance.
“Heilala vanilla came up with the idea to produce hand sanitizers in response to COVID-19. During this challenging time, consumers, health professionals and multiple industries around the world are facing shortages of health equipment including hand sanitizers and Tonga is no different. Heilala Vanilla decided to switch some of their vanilla extraction tanks to making hand sanitizer instead.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister – Dr. ‘Amelia Tu’ipulotu thanked NZ for the assistance provided as it will greatly assist with their daily operation in the Ministry.
“This business people are innovative in our culture. They have brought about and empower our local Vanilla growers. They have showcased more of their talent by providing innovative ways during the pandemic to support our very vulnerable Tongan situation – a weak and developing health system. I thank your Excellency for bringing about Heilala vanilla to “takanga ‘etau fohe” to work together with your Excellency and your office of course, most importantly, to engage the Ministry of Health so we can all work together in partnership to support and safeguard a very vulnerable and fragile nation. “
