Concern with the use of confidential information during deliberations

The chair of the Whole House Committee expressed concern for the use of information within cabinet decisions without permission from government.
Lord Tu’i’afitu had raised the issue after the Tongatapu 1 MP had revealed information from a cabinet decision made in February earlier this year.
The Finance Minister was also concerned and said action must be taken against those who obtain confidential government information without authorisation, but especially for cabinet documents.
This follows Tongatapu 1 MP Siaosi Pohiva raising an issue with information taken from a cabinet decision back in February which showed the amount of money allocated for the road maintenance project was 27 million pa’anga whereas in the government’s budget proposal, it was at 10 million pa’anga only.
However, the Finance Minister denied the information provided by Pohiva.
