The Ministry of health is completing requirements needed for the Public Health Emergency order to be extended for another three months.
Health Minister says the declaration was announced in March and will be until next Friday, however they are working to extend it as preparations are underway to open Tonga’s borders.
Dr ‘Amelia Tu’ipulotu did not confirm whether the borders will be opened this month but says her Ministry is not yet ready for the borders to be opened for more than 7thousand Tongans stranded overseas.
In March the Government closed its borders to prevent COVID-19 outbreak.
Last week the MEIDECC Minister told MPs Government targets to open the border this month but the Health Minister will make the final call whether they are ready with the resources available.
Meanwhile, ‘Amelia says since the restrictions were imposed, they’ve recorded positive outcomes from the public as majority complied with the restrictions especially with practicing hygienic lifestyle and social distancing.
