The body of a young Tongan girl who was repatriated from Fiji last week was finally laid to rest at Vava’u last Saturday, after cabinet had approved a request from the family to have the young girl buried in Vava’u instead of Tongatapu as outlined under COVID-19 restrictions.
Accompanying the body of the young girl from Tongatapu to Vava’u was the Minister for Infrastructure and Tourism who is the MP of Vava’u 16, where the young girl’s family is from.
The deceased was repatriated from Fiji aboard the VOEA Neiafu and was supposed to be buried here on Tongatapu but the family had made a request to Cabinet to allow the burial to take place in Vava’u.
A representative of the family told Radio & TV Tonga News they are grateful for the cabinet’s decision to allow them to lay their young relative to rest at her home in Vava’u.
