The Ministry of Police have recorded a decrease in the number of arrests made over the weekend, from the weekend before.
The Acting Deputy Police Commissioner – ‘Atunaisa Taumoepeau says, the total arrests made over the past weekend was 77 compared to the 86 arrests made on the weekend before.
Most of these arrests were on breaking curfew restrictions with a few cases from being drunk and disorderly in public places, amongst others.
In comparison to the prior weekend Taumoepeau says they had arrested more than 30 on Friday, more than 30 on Saturday, and over 10 people on Sunday.
Despite this lower number of arrests Taumoepeau still strongly advised the public to be cautious when consuming alcohol, follow the curfew restrictions, and he also urged parents to ensure their children are picked up straight after school to minimize the chances of school brawls breaking out in the Nuku’alofa area.
Many of those arrested last weekend were male with only 2 percent female, including those found with drugs during curfew hours.
