The Drug Taskforce has arrested 574 people with since it was established in April 2018.
Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Tevita Vailea says since January to date, 170 have been charged with drug related crimes and since the lockdown due to coronavirus, 90 people were arrested.
He adds, Police still commits to end drug operations in Tonga as it harms people’s lives and the people living in the rural areas have been very supportive of their operation especially the community patrol.
Since the lockdown was declared in March, most of the towns and villages activated their community patrol and they’ve been reporting cases and tips to police especially on drugs, which have been very helpful.
Vailea adds they will continue their search for those illegally distributing drugs in Tonga and bring them to justice.
Recently Police reported many cases of drugs and on Tuesday two men were arrested with meth and cash.
